Stay strong: Become more faithful in what you are called to do.

There is much more to life than presenting the illusion of knowing everything in order that everyone admires you.

The illusion of competence is the most fatal of all. My boss believes that self-doubt is the greatest sin. He thinks he knows enough and is therefore saving up a crisis for himself at the exact moment when he takes his last breath. At that moment he will know all. At that moment we will be able to see through the mirror darkly and know that morality is all there is. And who among us can be totally, perfectly moral? Especially the amoral shall be mortified. Each day living in a sea of doubt is a victory, for it means living in humility. Who can survive in permanent doubt other than he who is master over his nerves? Who is able to smile and accept that there is but one path and one purpose - the path of faith - which is casting all your faith in God and losing sight of all that we cannot control?

Do you know what tomorrow will hold? Fine then why do you hold onto certainty like your life depends on it? Why are you eternally seeking reassurance that it will go your way? It is totally out of your power to do anything about it. You need to live on the knife's edge of life which is pure chaos and have faith that all will work out. You need to be one with doubt in order to use it to your advantage; in order to respond quickly and without preconceived notions about the situation when it occurs.

The youth thinks he knows everything. That is his fault. The old man knows there is nothing they know for certain. That is their strength. We are dealing with all factors all of the time, and all we can know is that God either favors us or despises us. Do what is right each day, and plan your life accordingly. As for any other plan, there is nothing that will benefit us without wreaking havoc on our nerves, because it is likely to go imperfectly, or worse yet: fail. In this way, faith grows. Without this way, faith remains a helpless child, and we are only as powerful to change as our faith is sturdy.
