Scrambled cities: If you're not gonna do the work(on your soul), then you might as well work til you die

There are two tiers in normal life. Those who are survive and those who thrive.  But nothing is a mistake in life: Nothing comes by chance. You have to prepare for it.  If you thought life was about making money and beating out the Jones's, you've lost already.  Life is: Desire for connection. All unhealthy competition is isolating. We live in an isolated-enough world already. This connection comes from a surprising place: Self-acceptance. A lot of us need to go back to the classroom. A lot of us need to take a silent breather and check in with what we need. This takes serious work. It's the real work. It relies on respect for others and self-respect.  A lot of people in the self-help community try to push the self aside: Manning up is the only side of it they see. But there are certain non-negotiables in this life. Certain things we can't cheat ourselves out of. We are not a piece of meat being acted on.    However, this is where God comes in. Some o...

The Awakening of Timid Tom

This is an inspirational story that goes out to all those who are on the verge of letting fear control their lives.

To begin with, in a raw logic sort of way, let me tell you that you're where you are because of a combination of ignorance on your part; be it emotional or spiritual or a combination of both.

Now ignorance is something you can't charge people for in the way that you can charge someone with a crime. Ignorance is there largely because of your upbringing.

You get emotional ignorance which verges on the spiritual, and you get worldly ignorance which is more about self-confidence and courage.

Ultimately we believe both are the real thing...

We are not here to pass judgement on or caricature anyone. All I'm saying is this guy's timidity made a mouse look like a lion.

Well, Timid Tom was timid in every sense of the word. He avoided challenges and new experiences, letting fear dictate his actions. Tom was a cautious man, never thinking about the long-term effects of his inaction. He wasn't particularly stupid just perpetually timid.

He was talented though, and had a lot of good qualities but he never used them to their full potential.

So a real middle-class Martin type of of a guy, in other words. God gave him some choices in life. He always chose the path of least resistance. Times got tough and he got tougher, but in the wrong way, always retreating further into his shell. He was in touch with his timidity not his smarts. This guy, Timid Tom, was almost 40 when he realized that God had always been handing him opportunities to be brave.

But thinking about all of this; when he looked back, he always went for the safe option. God gave him many chances. He in-turn always chose the path of greatest timidity.

Well one day, thanks to God's Grace, this guy wakes up. He realizes that he's only in the place in life he's in; that unsatisfactory, stagnant, and unfulfilled state, because he's always been afraid to take risks. In other words, he is where he is because he took the wrong choice each time.

He starts his own business. He makes it work.

Later on he met a beautiful woman who valued his new-found sense of adventure and bravery. She hung out in exciting places and looked at life with a fearless heart. She had good tastes, could manage a good household, support his dreams, and inspire him to be more courageous. And she hung around, and she even adapted around his new way of life, like a cushion of synovial fluid to his aching bones. He worked hard and embraced bravery, finding fulfillment in taking risks and overcoming challenges.

That's where the dream began and the nightmare ended. He could face anything now. He just had to crack open the shell like a chick cracks open an egg to become a huge strident, prize-winning rooster.
