Scrambled cities: If you're not gonna do the work(on your soul), then you might as well work til you die

There are two tiers in normal life. Those who are survive and those who thrive.  But nothing is a mistake in life: Nothing comes by chance. You have to prepare for it.  If you thought life was about making money and beating out the Jones's, you've lost already.  Life is: Desire for connection. All unhealthy competition is isolating. We live in an isolated-enough world already. This connection comes from a surprising place: Self-acceptance. A lot of us need to go back to the classroom. A lot of us need to take a silent breather and check in with what we need. This takes serious work. It's the real work. It relies on respect for others and self-respect.  A lot of people in the self-help community try to push the self aside: Manning up is the only side of it they see. But there are certain non-negotiables in this life. Certain things we can't cheat ourselves out of. We are not a piece of meat being acted on.    However, this is where God comes in. Some o...

You need to spend time around people who value you

As a Christian who finds it hard to relate to a low-intellect church, a church that at times celebrates low intellect, I usually find it's not a little difficult to find people who value me as much as I value them.

This problem comes up over and over again, and as I'm isolated, the only message I get is from those who reject me from either the world or the church.

The world rejects me for being too kind. They see kindness as stupidity. There's very little space for pure kindness in the world anymore.

The church sees me as weird or pretentious. They often don't see the need to probe deeper than their own loneliness, their own questions, their own religious satisfaction.

So overall I'm left with the sense that everything is a little dismal and will be dismal for the indefinite future.

I want to future-proof my mind though. So for this, I will have to use a mix of worldly cool and Christian authenticity. I have to understand that the world won't appreciate my kindness, and that the church won't appreciate my intelligence.

Neither of which detract from the fact that to be truly comfortable in my skin, I have to be surrounded by people who love me.
